Barely a week before Christmas, people in Metro Manila and other parts of the country are most probably busy preparing for Christmas parties, listing gifts to buy, making their initial selection of new clothes or busy listing down what they to prepare for the Noche Buena feast.

But the same could not be said true for the people and the victims of floods in Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and other provinces affected by the onslaught of tropical storm “Sendong” (international name: Washi). Right now, people who fled their homes are crammed in evacuation centers with whatever simple belongings they have that survived the floods, making do with whatever little supply of food and water that is available.

Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez reported that the main water lines in the province have been severely damaged by floods, and there is now a severe shortage of potable water and food. Flood victims are appealing for your help in this time of need — and you can do your share by sending your donations to any of the following channels:

  • Non-partisan volunteer group Simbahang Lingkod Ng Bayan’s E-UGNAY: “The system can generate disaster assessment reports with concrete facts taken from the ground. This information is gathered by authorized field reporters equipped with mobile phones powered by e-Ugnay. The system is able to track the type and number of relief goods needed in a particular location, as well as facilitate their timely delivery to the affected areas—all in real time.   • The ATENEO SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT (Loyola Heights Campus-based ASoG http://www.asg.ateneo.edu/ headed by Dean Tony La Viña), led by Harvey Keh has started its DONATION DRIVE
  • XAVIER UNIVERSITY (XU) in Cagayan de Oro City is accepting donations which it will turn over to schools, churches and communities most drastically affected by the rains and floods (pls. refer to other people’s earlier posts about how to donate to XU)
  • De La Salle Zobel School’s Relief Goods Drop Off Center in Ayala Alabang is now accepting donations in cash or kind for the victims of the recent flood in Iligan City. Donations made will be shared with the people of Iligan, especially the poor and the Lasallian family members who were badly affected by the flood. Donations can be brought to the school at Gate 7. All those who wish to donate in cash (or cheques) are encouraged to deposit the amount directly to the bank account of La Salle Academy.Bank Name: Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP)
